Overview
There are a variety of reasons for needing to clear your web browser cache - recurring error when trying to load a specific website, a website not displaying current information you know to be there, random issues with the display of a website, etc. Below, you will find instructions for clearing the browser cache for the most common web browsers.
Steps
Microsoft Edge
- Click on the ellipsis icon (three horizontal dots) on the far right of the address bar.
- Click on "Settings."
- On the left sidebar, choose "Privacy, Search, and Services."
- Under "Clear browsing data," you will see "Clear browsing data now." Click the button that says "Choose What to Clear."
- Change the Time range to All Time.
- Ensure that Browsing history, Download history, Cookies and other site data, and Cached images and files are checked.
- Click "Clear Now."
- Close all Edge windows or, if on a Mac, quit Edge.
Google Chrome
- Click on the three vertical dots on the far right of the address bar.
- Click on the History sub-menu and choose "History."
- On the left sidebar, choose "Clear browsing data."
- Change the Time range to All time.
- Ensure that Browsing history, Cookies and other site data, and Cached images and files are checked.
- Click "Clear data."
- Close all Chrome windows or, if on a Mac, quit Chrome.
Safari
- Click on the Safari menu in the macOS menubar at the top of the screen.
- Choose "Clear History..."
- Change the "Clear" drop-down menu to "all history."
- Click "Clear History."
- Quit Safari
Mozilla Firefox
- Click on the "hamburger" menu icon (three bars) on the far right of the address bar.
- Choose "Settings."
- On the left sidebar, choose "Privacy & Security."
- Scroll down to "Cookies and Site Data."
- Click on the "Clear Data..." button.
- Ensure Cookies and Site Data and Cached Web Content are checked.
- Click "Clear."
- Close all Firefox windows or, if on a Mac, quit Firefox.
