Overview

There are a variety of reasons for needing to clear your web browser cache - recurring error when trying to load a specific website, a website not displaying current information you know to be there, random issues with the display of a website, etc. Below, you will find instructions for clearing the browser cache for the most common web browsers.

 

Steps

Microsoft Edge

  1. Click on the ellipsis icon (three horizontal dots) on the far right of the address bar.
  2. Click on "Settings."
  3. On the left sidebar, choose "Privacy, Search, and Services."
  4. Under "Clear browsing data," you will see "Clear browsing data now." Click the button that says "Choose What to Clear."
  5. Change the Time range to All Time.
  6. Ensure that Browsing history, Download history, Cookies and other site data, and Cached images and files are checked.
  7. Click "Clear Now."
  8. Close all Edge windows or, if on a Mac, quit Edge.

Google Chrome

  1. Click on the three vertical dots on the far right of the address bar.
  2. Click on the History sub-menu and choose "History."
  3. On the left sidebar, choose "Clear browsing data."
  4. Change the Time range to All time.
  5. Ensure that Browsing history, Cookies and other site data, and Cached images and files are checked.
  6. Click "Clear data."
  7. Close all Chrome windows or, if on a Mac, quit Chrome.

Safari

  1. Click on the Safari menu in the macOS menubar at the top of the screen.
  2. Choose "Clear History..."
  3. Change the "Clear" drop-down menu to "all history."
  4. Click "Clear History."
  5. Quit Safari

Mozilla Firefox

  1. Click on the "hamburger" menu icon (three bars) on the far right of the address bar.
  2. Choose "Settings."
  3. On the left sidebar, choose "Privacy & Security."
  4. Scroll down to "Cookies and Site Data."
  5. Click on the "Clear Data..." button.
  6. Ensure Cookies and Site Data and Cached Web Content are checked.
  7. Click "Clear."
  8. Close all Firefox windows or, if on a Mac, quit Firefox.
