Overview
An IP address, or Internet Protocol address, is a series of numbers used to identify hardware devices on a network.
Steps
macOS
- Go to the Apple menu in the upper left corner of your screen.
- Choose System Preferences.
- Click on Network.
- Click on Ethernet (for wired connections) or Wi-Fi (for wireless connections) on the left side.
- Click on Advanced.
- Click on TCP/IP near the top.
- The IPv4 Address is listed on that page. That is your IP address.
Windows 10
- Go to the search bar.
- Type cmd in the search box.
- Click on the cmd entry.
- In the new Command Prompt window, type ipconfig/all and press the Enter key.
- Look for the line that reads Ethernet Adapter Ethernet1 (for wired) or Wireless LAN Adapter: WiFi (for wireless).
- Below that line, you will see a line that reads IPv4 Address.
- The IPv4 Address is your IP address.
