Physical Plant Emergency Maintenance Issues

Who to Contact

If the issue occurs during the hours of 7 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday, call the Physical Plant office at 401-865-2166 (ext. 2166 from a campus phone). If your call is not answered, please contact Public Safety at 401-865-2391 (ext. 2391 from a campus phone).

If the issue occurs outside of those hours, call Public Safety at 401-865-2391 (ext. 2391 from a campus phone). The Public Safety officer will contact the on-call Physical Plant supervisor.

 

Types of Emergency issues

The following items are considered emergencies. Physical Plant should be notified immediately of these issues.

Please note that this is not an all-inclusive list. When in doubt of a situation, contact Physical Plant using the information above.

  • Any active leak where water is running or pooling in or on interior surface areas
    • Toilet
    • Sink (bathroom, kitchen, laboratory, janitors' closet, dining services)
    • Ceiling
    • Window
    • Floor drainage (water backing up through the floor/shower drains)
  • Door lock malfunction (unable to enter/exit room)
    • Access to enter or exit is impeded
    • Dead battery
    • Door handle issue
    • Broken lock
    • Broken door
  • Broken glass window or glass door
    • Window/door is unable to be secured and poses a safety risk
    • Window/door is open to the outside environment
    • Broken glass poses a danger of harming others
  • Elevator
    • Elevator is not working
    • Note: if the building has more than one (1) elevator, this is only an emergency if someone is trapped in the non-functional elevator
  • Gas smell - Call Public Safety immediately at 401-865-2391
  • Bodily fluids - vomit, blood, urine, feces - Public Safety will call UG2 directly for services
    • On stairs or in other public spaces
    • Bathrooms - public and private
    • Classrooms
    • Residence hall rooms
  • Electricity not working
    • No lights working
    • No electrical outlets working
  • Plumbing problems
    • Toilet, sink, or shower running with water overflowing onto the floor
    • Toilet will not flush and no other toilet options available
    • No hot water
    • No water
  • Animals or pests in the building
    • Mice or rats
    • Bats or birds
    • Large animals, such as racoons, skunks, or snakes
  • Graffiti - inappropriate language or symbols
  • Slip and fall hazard
    • Water on floors - Public Safety will call UG2 directly for services
    • Icy conditions
    • Grease or oil spill
  • Heating and cooling issues
    • No heat or air conditioning in a room and resident is unable to stay in the room due to this issue
