Managed Windows/App Update Notifications

Overview

College-issued Windows computers are managed by Intune, which is a tool that allows the IT department to manage, update, and secure applications and devices. Occasionally, users may encounter security notifications related to app installations/updates or Windows updates. These notifications are important and are intended to keep your device and applications secure. 

 

Types of Notifications

App Install/Updates from Intune 

App Installation/Update Notification

Users will see this notification when there is a new Intune-managed application update or install occurring.

App Conflict During Install/Update

Users will see this when there is an application open that interferes with the installation process. Users can close the conflicting app and allow the install to continue or choose to defer the installation up to 3 times.

Providence College requires the install of (application name). To ensure files aren't in use during the install, (application name) needs to be closed. Please save your work and close the application to proceed with the install. If no action is taken before the time expires the install for (application name) will be deferred. Close all and install. Snooze install.

 

Installation Complete

Users will receive the following notification once the installation/update is complete.

Microsoft Intune Management Extension. Providence College software distribution. Software was installed successfully.

 

 

Windows Updates 

Windows Update Installed and Requires Restart

Users will receive the following notification if there is a Windows update that has been installed and requires a restart. They can choose to defer until the date listed or to restart immediately.

Restart required by (date). Providence College requires important updates be installed. Ready? Restart now. Not ready? We'll restart outside of your active hours, or you can schedule the restart. Restart now. Pick a time. Let my device restart later.

 

Restart Deadline Reached

Users will receive the following notification when the restart deferral deadline is reached, and the restart is mandatory. The device will automatically restart at the specified time to finish applying the update.

You're getting an update. Providence College will restart your device at (time) to finish updating Windows. Make sure you save your work before then. Or, restart now if you're ready. Restart now. Confirm.
