Encrypt Email Messages

Overview

Encrypting an email message protects the content in the message. Email messages should be encrypted if they contain sensitive information, such as passwords or personally identifiable information (PII). Use the steps below to encrypt email messages sent through your Providence College email account.

Steps

Using the Subject

This method can be used with any device or application. If you are using the Outlook mobile app for iPhones, iPads, or Android devices, you must use this method.

  1. Add the following at the beginning of the subject of your email message:
    [PC-Encrypt]

Using Microsoft Outlook for Windows or macOS

  1. Create a new email message.
  2. On the new email message window, choose Options at the top.
  3. Click Encrypt.
  4. Choose Encrypt-Only.

Using Outlook Web App

  1. Create a new email message.
  2. Click Encrypt at the top of the message.
