Overview
This page contains instructions on how to connect to your network drives (G: drive, H: drive, N: drive) from your own personal computer. Please keep in mind that you are only able to access these drives while connected to the campus network.
Steps
Windows 10
1. Type "This PC" into the Cortana search bar.
2. Right-click on This PC and select Map network drive.
3. Choose a drive letter (it does not need to be the same as the letter normally used, but that works as good as any).
4. In the folder field, type "\\student1\USERNAME$" (without the quotation marks), where USERNAME is your network username. If you are a member of the staff or faculty, replace student1 with staff1 or faculty1, respectively.
5. If you wish to connect to the courseware (i.e. N: Drive), type "\\pcapps1\courseware".
6. If you wish to connect to your department's H: drive, type "\\staff1\DEPTCODE", where DEPTCODE is the abbreviation for your department. If you are a member of the faculty, replace staff1 with faculty1.
7. Check the box for Connect using different credentials.
8. Check Reconnect at sign-in if you want your network drive to show up whenever you turn your computer on.
9. Click Finish and you will be prompted for your username and password.
10. In the Username field, enter "providence\USERNAME" (without the quotation marks), where username is your network username.
11. In the Password field, enter your network password.
12. Your network drive should open now.
macOS
1. Open Finder from the dock.
2. Click on the Go menu at the top of your screen.
3. Choose Connect to Server.
4. In the address field, type "smb://student1/USERNAME$" (without the quotation marks), where USERNAME is your network username. If you are a member of the staff or faculty, replace staff1 with faculty1.
5. If you wish to connect to the courseware drive (i.e. N: drive), use smb://pcapps1/courseware.
6. If you wish to connect to your department's H: drive, use smb://staff1/DEPTCODE, where DEPTCODE is the abbreviation for your department. If you are a member of the faculty, replace staff1 with faculty1.
7. Click on the plus sign (+) button to add this to the favorites list.
8. Click Connect.
9. When the next dialogue window opens, be sure that the Username field shows your network username and not your full name. Make sure you also enter your network password.
10. Click OK and your network drive should show up.
